Changes to Registration

You may add or drop classes from your class schedule via CougarNet through the Friday before the term begins.

Effective the first day of the term, all undergraduate classes are considered closed. All enrolled students must obtain both an advisor and an instructor's written approval before adding any undergraduate class. This permission to gain admission to the class generally will be given on the Registration Form, which must be brought to the Service Center, Rendleman Hall 1309, for processing. Students must confer with an academic advisor who will approve the appropriateness of this addition to their schedule, while the instructor's written permission will be needed for admission to the class. Adding a class during the second week of the term also requires the written permission of the department chair.

Once classes begin, students may drop courses at the Service Center. A student is not withdrawn from a class by merely not attending. You are responsible for dropping any class you do not intend to take or complete. Absence from a class does not constitute dropping a class or withdrawing from the University, so you must follow the instructions below to avoid the assignment of failing grades.

You must drop an unwanted class or section of a course by the end of the second week of the term to be eligible for a refund. If you do not drop unwanted classes or course sections by the end of the second week, you will be liable for all tuition and fees associated with the class or section. In addition, you may receive a grade of F or UW (unauthorized withdrawal), which are failing grades calculated into the grade point average.

The table below describes the impact of dropping a course at specified periods during the semester.

Fall & Spring Semesters Summer Semester Grading Policy
Week 1-2 Week 1-2 No entry on transcript.
Week 3-10 Week 3-5 A "W" grade automatically assigned.
Week 11-13 Week 6-8 Drops or withdrawals require signature of instructor and advisor. Instructor will assign a grade of either WP or WF. WF grades are calculated in the average as failing grades.
After Week 13 After Week 8 No drops or withdrawals are allowed; the instructor will assign a normal grade.

Deadlines for adding/dropping courses during the summer term may vary. Always consult the Academic Calendar.

You are officially registered for only those courses and sections appearing on your registration documents (schedule on CougarNet), so monitor this schedule and always verify that registration changes you have requested have been correctly processed.
