Roles and Responsibilities All SIUE students are expected to uphold certain roles and responsibilities. Attend Class. Before the first day of classes, be sure to check your class schedule on CougarNet to verify the time and date your classes begin. Also, check to be sure that the classroom location has not changed. Attendance of the first class meeting is particularly important. If you are a no-show, in addition to missing important information from the instructor, you may lose your seat to someone waiting to enroll in the class. Although faculty may drop you for non-attendance, they are not required to do so and can assign a failing grade if you do not drop a class you are not attending. Maintain good academic standing. To remain in good standing with the University, you must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Details regarding academic standing, grading and GPA can be found online in the Undergraduate Catalog. Stay Informed. The University communicates via e-mail important information regarding matters such as your bill, financial aid status and enrollment information. You must regularly check your SIUE e-mail account, even if you maintain a separate, personal e-mail account. You also must regularly update your password; if you don't, you may be locked out of your e-mail. Even during academic breaks and semesters when you do not attend class, you must periodically check your account and keep it active. For security, you will be prompted to change your password every 60 days. Contact the ITS Help Desk at 650-550 or ftc_help@siue.edu for help with your SIUE e-mail account or e-id issues. Be aware of deadlines and important dates. You are responsible for knowing the important dates and deadlines for the term. You can find these dates in the academic calendar of the Schedule of Classes on the Registrar’s website. |
