<h2>Endowment Accounts</h2><p>An endowment at the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Foundation preserves the principal while providing income for a program account as specified by the donor. An endowment may be established at any level above the minimum endowment level and may support any type of program account except for a benefit account. The current minimum endowment level is $15,000.</p><p>The SIUE Foundation’s Investment Policies set the percentage of earnings from the endowment accounts that may be distributed as income to the program accounts. This distribution is made at least once a year. The amount of the distribution is also determined by the classification of the endowment and the amount of earnings available.</p><p>Endowments are classified as either Student Assistance Endowments or General Endowments. Student Assistance Endowments are endowment accounts that provide scholarships, grants, loans, or honorary awards for students as well as academic or honorary awards for faculty. General Endowments are those endowments that are not related to providing student or faculty assistance. These include endowments that support book accounts, general academic development accounts, general program accounts, and others.</p><p>The minimum needed to establish an endowment is set by the SIUE Foundation Board of Directors. The SIUE Foundation Board of Directors’ Investment Committee continues to review these policies and may change the minimum levels to ensure the future “buying power” of the endowment while protecting the principal.</p><p></p>
