1. Which classes will transfer from another school to SIUE?
Transfer credit decisions for general education courses as well as freshmen and sophomore-level mathematics and physics courses are made by the Office of Registrar Transfer Center. Detailed transfer credit information is available at the following website: http://www.siue.edu/transfer.
2. What are the requirements for the engineering undergraduate programs?
Curriculum Guides are available in Engineering Student Services, for all undergraduate programs in the School of Engineering. Please call 650-5300 or stop by EB 2012. You may also visit the School of Engineering’s website at http://www.siue.edu/engineering/ and follow the links to each department for the most updated curriculum guides for each Engineering department.
3. What are the requirements to be accepted into the School of Engineering?
First, you must be admitted to the University. Completion of any required courses to address School of Engineering high school deficiencies; completion of all academic development courses required by the University; eligibility to enroll in MATH 125 – Precalculus; and maintenance of a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
4. How do I go about declaring a major in Engineering?
If you are currently Undeclared, you must make an appointment with Academic Advising to declare your major. Once you have declared a major, Academic Advising will send your academic records to Engineering Student Services for evaluation. Once Engineering Student Services completes its evaluation, you will then be sent a welcome letter telling you who your advisor is and their contact information, along with a copy of the evaluation.
If you are currently enrolled in a major in the School of Engineering and want to change, you must complete a Change of Major form with Engineering Student Services. An evaluation of your academic records will be done and you will be notified, by letter, of your new academic advisor (if applicable) along with a copy of the evaluation.
5. I have just declared my engineering major with Academic Advising, what do I do now?
As soon as Engineering Student Services receives your academic records from Academic Advising, and completes an evaluation for your specific program of study, you will receive a welcome letter from Engineering Student Services telling you who your advisor is, along with a copy of the evaluation. Once you receive your welcome letter, please give us a call at 650-5300 to set up an appointment with your advisor.

7. Where do I go to apply for graduation?

8. How do I declare or drop a minor?
You must complete a Change of Major/Minor form located in Engineering Student Services, EB 2012. After the information is processed, the changes will appear in BANNER/CougarNet. If the student has applied for graduation, he or she will need to inform the Graduation office of the change. The Graduation office is located in Rendleman Hall Room 1309.
9. How can I change my advisor?
To change your advisor, you will need approval from the Director of Student Services.
10. What is the difference between Computer Science and Computer Engineering?
Computer Science is almost totally oriented toward software development while computer engineering is both hardware and software oriented. A computer engineer must have a significant knowledge of software development in order to be able to design the machines which will run the software.
11. What is the difference between the BS degree and a BA degree in Computer Science?
Computer Science is the only major within the School of Engineering that offers a Bachelor of Arts degree. All engineering degrees are Bachelor of Science degrees. The BS degree requires many more math and science courses and is a much stronger computer science curriculum. The BA degree requires two semesters of foreign language, has nine more free electives and requires a minor in some other discipline.
12. Can I talk to someone in engineering about the different programs?
Yes, the Associate Dean is available to talk with prospective students about the various programs offered in the School of Engineering. Please call 650-2541 or email engineering@siue.edu to schedule a meeting.
NOTE: Tours of the School of Engineering and/or specific program areas must be scheduled at least a week prior to the date you wish to visit.
13. Are there any Engineering Scholarships?

14. Is the Engineering office open on the weekends?
Our regular office hours are from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday except when the University is closed.
