<p><strong>Kim Luebke - Peoria, Ill.</strong></p>

<p>Engineering has been part of Kim Luebke’s life for as long as she can remember–from working on projects with her electrical engineer father, to becoming a highly successful mechanical engineering student at SIUE.</p>
<p>Currently a senior in the School of Engineering, Kim works hard to get involved in and out of the classroom, something she feels is integral to excelling in her field.</p>
<p>“Setting yourself apart from the crowd is important, and getting involved is one great way to do that. I’ve had so many networking opportunities through SIUE, and that’s something I truly appreciate,” Kim said.</p>
<p>Kim certainly took advantage of one opportunity to stand out in a big way–with encouragement from her professors she became a founding member of the SIUE chapter of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers). After joining the national chapter on her own, Kim went though the process of getting the organization approved through student government. </p>
<p>The fruits of Kim’s labors are plentiful–not only does she have the satisfaction of knowing that she has created new opportunities for her fellow students, but Kim also received the largest scholarship available through ASHRAE.</p>
<p>“That scholarship typically goes to someone at a bigger school,” said Kim. “I’m incredibly happy to be representing SIUE.”</p>
<p>Kim credits the engineering program at SIUE and her professors with her current success, as well as with her inspiration for the future. She plans to continue her education, possibly studying business to broaden her career opportunities even further. In the meantime, Kim will be spending time as an intern at The Boeing Co.</p>
<p>When she isn’t studying or working to advance the field of engineering, Kim likes to be outside enjoying nature. In fact, in addition to the quality of the School of Engineering, she says that the beauty of the campus is one of the reasons she chose SIUE.</p>
<p>“It’s ideal–you’re close to all the amenities of St. Louis, but you’re far enough away that you can still see the stars at night.”</p>
