CI 557 The Art and Practice of Teaching
(Master of Arts in Teaching Program, Technology
Strand)
Target
Audience
Pre-service secondary education students enrolled in the
SIUE Master of Arts in Teaching Program.
Format
AAM serves as one strand (technology strand) of seven. Other
strands within the degree program consist of Foundation
of Education, Educational Psychology, Pedagogy, Classroom
Management, Teaching Literacy in the Content Areas, and
Special Education. Classes are delivered through lecture
and group collaboration.
Each strand conducts
four seminars over four blocks (or four semesters) that
is equivalent to a three credit graduate course.
Location
The seminars are held at the SIUE campus in a computer lab
to provide a “hands on” learning environment
in accessing digital media from the Library of Congress
website.
Course
Goal
The goal of this course is to prepare pre-service classroom
teachers to effectively access, integrate, and produce curricula
that utilize the digitized primary source materials from
the collections of the Library of Congress. The course will
focus on technology standards and technology integration
into the 9th-12th grade classroom and the nature of primary
sources and classroom applications for digital technology.
This course also provides hands-on experience using the
historical texts, photographs, motion pictures, maps and
sound recordings from the Library of Congress American Memory
digital collections.
