Recruitment

What are the advantages of this program?

This program is designed to help current teachers enhance their teaching skills in Math Education.

Who will be considered for admission in this program?

Current teachers who have earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and are currently teaching Mathematics in a high school setting.

Can I complete this program if I do not have a Bachelor’s in Mathematics but I have a high school mathematics endorsement?

It would depend upon a transcript evaluation by the Mathematics department.  It is assumed that students will have the knowledge and experience of many upper level mathematics courses in order to succeed in the Mathematics content courses within this program.

How long will it take to complete?

The program will take 3 years to complete.  Based on feedback from current teachers, the preference was to only take one course each semester (2 courses in the summers) and that is how we’ve designed this program.  Students starting the program Fall 2008 will be complete by the end of Summer 2011. Click here for a printable course schedule.

What are the costs?

This program is contingent upon grant funding.  If the grant is fully funded as expected, SIUE will waive tuition for the classes required for this program and the grant will cover all associated course fees and books.

Are there any requirements from my school or district for me to participate?

Yes, your school and district must approve your participation in this program.  Teams from schools not meeting AYP are encouraged to participate.
