<p><strong><br />APPLICATION PROCESS</strong><br /><em>How do I apply? </em><br />If applying for a Master’s Degree or Specialist Degree, you will need to complete a Classified Graduate Application <a href="http://www.siue/edu/graduate/apply/index.shtml" target="_blank">www.siue/edu/graduate/apply/index.shtml</a>. Depending on which program you select, you may also need to complete a program application as well. <br /><br /><strong>BILLING PROCESS<br /></strong><em>Will I receive a paper bill in the mail? </em><br />The university does not mail out paper bills anymore. You can go to CougarNet and view your billing statement from there. Go to: <a href="http://www.siue.edu" target="_blank">www.siue.edu</a>, click on the “Cnet” under the box on the left side of the screen.<br /><br /><strong>CLASS SCHEDULES<br /></strong><em>Where can I find out what courses are being offered each semester?</em> <br />Class schedules are located at: <a href="http://www.siue.edu/registrar/schedules/index.shtml" target="_blank">http://www.siue.edu/registrar/schedules/index.shtml</a><br /><br /><strong>GIFTED CHILDREN CERTIFICATION<br /></strong><em>Which classes do I need to take to become certified to work with gifted children? <br /></em>SIUE at this time does not offer classes for gifted education.<br /><br /><strong>MASTER’S DEGREE COMPLETION DATE<br /></strong><em>How long do I have to complete a Master’s Degree? <br /></em>SIUE allows you six years from the date of the first transferred course (or date of admission, whichever is earlier) to complete your degree.<br /><br /><strong>MILLER’S ANALOGY TEST<br /></strong><em>Do I have to take the Miller’s Analogy Test? <br /></em>The Miller’s Analogy test is no longer required.<br /><br /><strong>NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION<br /></strong><em>How do I receive National Board Certification? </em><br />Go to: <a href="http://www.nbpts.org" target="_blank">www.nbpts.org</a><br /><br /><strong>OFF-CAMPUS COURSES<br /></strong><em>If I plan on enrolling in an off-campus program, can I still take a class at another location? </em><br />Yes, you are always welcome to take classes at another location if you wish to speed up or enhance your program.</p>
<p><strong>PROGRAM REQUIREMENT<br /></strong><em>Do I have to be employed as a teacher to be in this program? </em><br />No, you don’t have to be employed to be in this program. This program, however, does not lead to initial teacher certification.<br /><strong><br />TEACHING CERTIFICATE RENEWAL<br /></strong><em>What do I do if my teaching certificate has lapsed and I want to take courses to renew my teaching certificate plus work on a master’s at the same time? </em><br />You need to first contact the Regional Office of Education <a href="http://www.isbe.state.il.us/regionaloffices/Default.htm" target="_blank">www.isbe.state.il.us/regionaloffices/Default.htm</a> about getting your teaching certificate reinstated. You are welcome to take graduate level courses, but some programs do require a current teaching certificate before you are fully admitted.<br /><br /><strong>TEXTBOOK INFORMATION<br /></strong><em>Where do I purchase my textbooks? </em><br />Books may be purchased through the bookstore online<a href=" http://books.siue.bookstore.com" target="_blank"> http://books.siue.bookstore.com</a> or in person. You can also purchase books through another vendor ahead of time such as Amazon.com or half.com.<br /><br /><strong>TUITION WAIVERS<br /></strong><em>What is a tuition waiver?</em><br /> A tuition waiver is issued to teachers who host SIUE students in their classroom, either for an observation or student teaching. Principals also receive 3 credit hour waivers if they’ve hosted 5 or more SIUE students in their building over the course of a year. The waivers can be transferred within a district.<br /><br /><strong>UNCLASSIFIED STATUS<br /></strong><em>Can I take courses without being admitted into a program? </em><br />Limits on the number of credits that may be presented for transfer vary by degree level and by program.
