Advisement Overview

We welcome your interest in our programs.  At any time, we would gladly meet with students who may have an interest in one of our majors.  If interested, please contact our office at 618.650.3940 or stop by Founders Hall 1110.

Once a student declares a major within the School of Education, they will be assigned a School of Education professional advisor specific to that major

Secondary Education majors: “Secondary Education” is not a separate major at SIUE, but rather a specific track within your content major leading to teacher certification.  Secondary Education students will work with an advisor within their content area for general education and content area related matters.  Students will also be assigned an OCECA advisor for all coursework and processes related to Education.  Please make sure your content advisor is aware of your intent to become a teacher to ensure you are taking the correct courses within your major.

Please select a major for specific advising information:
Early Childhood Education
Elementary Education
Secondary Education (including Health and Physical Education majors)
Special Education
Community Health Education
Exercise Science
Psychology
Speech Language Pathology

Fingerprint Background checks:
All students entering a teacher education program at SIUE are required to undergo a criminal background check prior to any field placements.  This is typically completed in CI 200.  Students who transfer in an equivalent course will have to complete the background check prior to any field experience.

Accurate Biometrics will come to campus to facilitate the background process.  Students will pay Accurate Biometrics directly (currently $50).  Students must complete the background release form which will remain on file in OCECA.

Students will not be allowed to continue in a teacher education program if they have been convicted of one of the enumerated offenses as set forth as prohibiting one from becoming a certified teacher in the State of Illinois.
