Students are expected to enter the program with competencies in computer software, statistics and financial accounting. Students without previous course work in statistics and financial accounting and students who feel that they would like to review their skills in statistics and financial accounting are encouraged to complete an online educational components to ensure that they can be successful in Accounting 524 and MBA 521 as well as other courses in the program.

• If you have this knowledge from a statistics course (MS 251 at SIUE or the equivalent from another school), you are ready to begin MBA 521.
• If you do not understand these concepts or would like a refresher, you can complete an online course offered through the Harvard School of Business. The online course is interactive. The results of your work will be transmitted to the instructor through the Harvard Publishing Website. Admitted students will receive information about this online course in their letter of admission.
• In addition to the topics listed above, the online course includes multiple regression and decision analysis. We will be covering these topics in MBA 521. The information available through the online course can serve as a helpful resource as we cover this material.

• If you have these skills from a principles of accounting course (ACCT 200 at SIUE or the equivalent at another school), you are ready to begin ACCT 524.
• If you do not have these skills or would like a refresher, you can complete chapters 1 through 6 of Solid Footing. You will not be required to submit the project and it will not be included in your grade for ACCT 524. The main part of the project is “interactive” – the software demonstrates the steps for you. Solid Footing is a software package which is available in the SIUE University Bookstore on the Edwardsville Campus.
• From Chapter 2 through Chapter 6, the project includes a comprehensive problem that will let you test your understanding. Solutions to that problem will be posted to Blackboard.
• Later chapters (7 through 10) of the software could be used as a reference for topics that will be covered in the financial accounting section of the course.
Students may also choose to take an undergraduate course to improve their statistics (MS 251) and accounting skills (ACCT 200). Completion of MS 251 or ACCT 200 will not earn academic credit in the MBA program.
