<p style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto; line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal">Welcome to the exciting world of computing within the School of Business.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> Our goal is to provide you the opportunity to grow and learn while you acquire the computer competencies that can make you successful as a business information technology and information systems specialist!<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> As such, our classes are taught by a nationally recognized faculty with our core faculty holding academic doctoral degrees from leading research universities and colleges from around the United States.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> Our computerized classrooms let you gain experience in using leading edge computer software and hardware that we acquire through our academic alliances with Microsoft and Oracle Corporation.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> This enables you to learn to use the same software tools that you will use when you begin to work in the information technology industry.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> You will learn about topics such as JAVA programming, Structured Query Language (SQL), and .NET programming and database technology.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> As you study general systems theory, you will have the opportunity to use SAP R/3 software to learn exactly how organizations use computer technology to manage organizational data.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> Our departmental computer servers run a variety of operating system software including LINUX and Microsoft and you will study hands-on classes that teach you to install server and client software and to manage these types of servers.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> We use all sizes of database management systems from the largest Oracle systems to the scalable Microsoft SQL Server databases to the small workgroup Microsoft Access databases.</p>
<p style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto; line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal">Our academic programs are tailored to meet your needs as a student.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> The hyperlink menus you see on the left side of this web page provide access to detailed information about our <em style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">Bachelor of Science</em> and <em style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">Master of Science</em> degree programs, both with majors in Computer Management and Information Systems.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> If you are considering completing a <em style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">Bachelor of Science in Business Administration</em> (BSBA), then we encourage you to consider completing a specialization in <em style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">Management Information Systems</em>.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> Additionally, we support the School of Business program for students seeking an academic minor in Business.</p>
<p style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto; line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal">Students often ask, “What is the job outlook for graduates of your programs?” and the answer is that the job outlook is very, very good.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> Our graduates work for both large and small firms in St. Louis including The Boeing Company, Edward Jones, Emerson, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, and Monsanto to name a few.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> St. Louis firms seek out our graduates because they know that our students are trained on the latest information technologies in our computer classrooms.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> We encourage you to participate in co-operative learning and industry internships and provide academic credit for these “on the job” learning experiences through enrollment in internship classes.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> You may want to review some information from these sources about information technology jobs: <a href="http://www.diceholdingsinc.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=211152&p=irol-dicereport" target="_blank">The Dice Report</a>,<a href="http://www.roberthalftechnology.com"> Robert Half Technology</a>, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics <a href="http://www.bls.gov/oco/" target="_blank">Occupational Outlook Handbook</a>.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span> Our business community needs more IT workers! </p>
