Advisement & Registration

Once students are admitted to the School of Business or become pre-business students they will be advised by a professional advisor in the Business Student Services Office or a faculty member from their department. Please see the "Meet with an Advisor" link to the left to see advisement locations by major.

During restricted advisement period (weeks 2 to 12 of fall and spring semesters) appointments and drop-in in Business Student Services are only for declared majors and coded pre-business students only.

During the open advising period, anyone who needs information about admission to the School of Business or its academic programs may meet with an advisor in Business student Services.

Advising for Spring 2010

Students who are advised in Business Student Services may begin meeting with advisors for spring 2009 on August 31, 2009.  Students who are advised in the individual academic departments should contact their advisor for information on advisement.

Registration for Spring 2010

Students will be able to register themselves via the web after they have met with an academic advisor, planned their upcoming courses and received a Advisement Form and their alternate PIN.  Students should meet with an academic advisor before Web Registration begins.

Web registration will be implemented according to the University established schedule below. Advisors will no longer register students for courses.  Only those students who have been advised and who have a Advisement Form and their alternate PIN number will be able to proceed to CougarNet and register for classes.

Some Advice about Advising and Registration

What you should do:

Do meet with an advisor sometime before the Web Registration date for your classification for advisement. You may either schedule an appointment or come to drop-in.

Do plan the times you want for your courses after you have met with an advisor.

Do begin exploring your options for electives (if you need them) by reviewing the course schedule and the Undergraduate Catalog. Both are available online at the Registrar’s Office website: www.siue.edu/registrar or through CougarNet

Please be patient.

Ask questions. If you have questions ask! If we don't know, we will find out for you or refer you to the person who can assist you.

What you should not do:

Do not panic. As long as you meet with an advisor before the Web Registration date for your classification for advising and have a plan in place, you should be able to register yourself for classes.

Do not wait until the last minute to be advised. There is plenty of time for all business majors and pre-business students to be advised, but please do not wait until the last minute to do so.
