Over the past 16 years, she has spearheaded most every aspect of brand marketing from strategic planning and product management, to advertising, promotion and public relations.

Since joining the University in 1999, Karen has worked very hard to take a leadership role in marketing the institution and recommends communication strategies to help connect prospective students to SIUE. She coordinates the production of most SIUE recruitment materials and coordinates SIUE visit programs like Preview SIUE — the campus-wide open houses in October and November; Chancellor’s Scholars Day in February; and Admitted Student Receptions held each spring.

Also, she has had opportunities to serve in several roles outside Academic Marketing. Karen served as Chair for the SIUE AQIP Prospective Student Pre-Application Working Group, whose charge was to evaluate and self-assess current practices. She has worked with the Illinois Education Research Council to develop an identity for the program, and helped coordinate its first statewide research symposium. One of her favorite roles was that of interim coordinator of the SIUE Arts and Issue Series, which brings world-renowned speakers and entertainers to SIUE.

Karen is a member of CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) and IACAC (Illinois Association of College Admission Counseling). She serves on the IACAC Government Relations Committee; serves as Chair and On-site coordinator for the IACAC regional Illinois College Exposition Fair; and, is a member of the Lewis and Clark Community College ICE Fair program.

Hobbies
For fun, Karen loves spending time with her husband and keeping up with her two daughters. Also, Karen serves as a public relations delegate for Girls Scouts of River Bluffs Council Neighborhood #103 and is a proud Brownie leader for Girl Scout Troop #167.
